As a compensation for all the eurovision spam, here’s a back study I did before the show started. featuring my oc Shaka-Bella of course <3
back muscles are still hard for me though :< still not sure if I like the final result more than the WIP:
also a little thanks to Caleb for providing me awesome GIFs as perfect references! uvu
Character Progression: Shaka-Bella (from 2004 to 2013)
Shaka-Bella is an OC almost as old as Miré.
She started out as some kind of magician, with super-oiriginal cat eyes and had a lot of typical mary-sure traits. Her personality was a bit different back when I first made her as well, she was wise and powerful (aka OP-Mary-Sue x10)
for a very long time I didn’t consider Shaka to be a “human” but some sort of very human-like desert-mutant (not to be confused with X-men mutants). But as I grew older and got a better idea of how character development worked, I ended up ditching the cat eyes and the magical powers and made her in to a human. And she went from mysterious witch to a rebellious jack sparrow in attitude.
She had dreads for a very long time, but I removed them recently. It felt a bit to much and didn’t really work with her lifestyle as a roadtrip-biker chick.
The traits i’ve kept though is her hair and skin color, as well as her body type; she’s tall and slender. But her breasts are more or less smaller now than in the old versions. (I drew all boobs like in those older pictures because that’s what I thought was a typical thing you had in manga style. True story.)
I love Shaka’s nose. Her nose is prob the best thing I gave her.
Decided to color Papillon-chan uvu
thought I should make an OC that is a bit more feminine than the other ones I have. Maybe not the most original design, but I like her ears they are cute n stuff
Doodles of my character Miré. I made her when I was 10-11 something. She started as some kind of persona I guess, but turned in to a character of her own in the end. I really like her design.
one of my OCs - Miré
Speedpainting - about an hour in Corel Painter. Trying out some color palettes.
I found a new favourite brush in Painter. It’s peeeeerfect for speedpainting. (
okay this one took me uh 3 hours but I had so much fun)
This is a scene I’ve had in my head for a while now. It’s my two OCs Shaka-Bella (left) and Ronya (right). The plot I have in my head is simple and super cliché; Ronya is a rich royal girl that one day lose her home and family and everything due to war and bad stuff like that. She decides to revenge her family and shits and ask the (wanted) mercenary Shaka-Bella to train her to be able to fight.
This scene is when Ronya re-visits her hometown that is more or less in ruins. I wanted to give a little bit of a yin-yang contrast in the values, making both characters pop out good enough.
dunno if I’ll leave this as it is or use it as a thumb for a final painting in the future, but I’m pleased with it as it looks right now.
(oh and Greeeeen-saaan, you know if you get any ideas for a text to the picture. You have my OK *hint*)
One thing just crossed my mind; I rarely see people with antagonist OCs.
(Antagonist= Something/someone preventing/threatening the protagonist to reach it’s goal. The Antagonist is often the “villain” in most stories.)
Well, it might be of different reasons of course - some OCs are created for roleplaying, so their character doesn’t have any specific “role”.
Aside from that, there’s OCs that are created through comics or writing. I remember that I tried to make soooo many comics when I was 13-15, but I never got any good plot because all I did was drawing the characters (aka my mary-sues).
I come to realize that the only “bad guy” or “villain” I’ve created by myself is… uh… it’s quite embarrassing to tell you this but eh…
He was more or less some sort of digimon/pokémon hybrid. Imagine the pokémons Scyther and Mewtwo mixed together. His name was…. “Die-Rider”. The name doesn’t make any sense at all. ugh. He was quite a gary-stu as well of course.
I don’t know any antagonists I’ve created myself, the bad guys in most of my old comics where created by my ex-bestfriend.
I think I’m going to sit and sketch on some bad guys/gurrls the rest of the day - with my non-dominant hand of course. I’ve been slacking when it comes to using it, so I better get started again.
Perhaps it’s just me who have this thought, but what do you think?
Drew this while finishing watching the first season of Tiger and Bunny (is there a second season btw? Or is it only one season?).
I know I know, the pose is super cliché. But I don’t wanna sit and worry about using a original pose (that’s where I get artblocket). Besides I never do these kind of poses, so it’s better to just draw them so I get them out of my mind, right?
Don’t really know about her design, but I think this is my newest OC Vanya (or Ronja… I still haven’t come up with a name for her dfshjkdsfhk). I mostly draw her dressed in victorian/classic lolita clothing. But since she wants to become a fighter, I should give her a second set of clothes and some kind of weapon as signature. Don’t know if I’ll go with those scythe-looking things on her arms. Anyway, will probably ink this tomorrow or something.
Hugin and Miré doing stuff together. I think Miré’s holding a pair of binoculars.
My two OCs who deserve some more attention. I have about 7 OCs more or less. 4 of them is in one story while the other 3 is in a separate story (because you actually do not need to fit all your 34 OCs in one story) .
I like the pose and such in this drawing, the anatomy needs to be fixed of course. But I’ll leave that for tomorrow.
If you gaiz have any questions about my OCs, just tell me and I’ll gladly post a 3 mile long TL;DR text post about them.
Corel decided to crash on me when I was fixing this sketch (improving the anatomy and other shit). Next time I work in corel, I shall check the box “create backup on save”. Unchecked it before because I thought it would improve the performance, which it obviously didn’t….
Drawing my oc Miré with my non dominant hand. Might try to ink it as well.
One of my favorite things with Hugin is that he has monkey feet. Here’s a small drawing of when my other character, Vanja, met him for the first time.
Drawing characters while watching pewdiepie on YouTube. The was ended up too big. But I still like the whole design in general. This is my OC Hugin, he is a troll. Sort of.
Livestream is over, now I’m off to bed.
It was very fun to paint this. I really learned myself some new things to consider when it comes to skintones. will probably make more versions of this one, but with different kinds of light sources (ambient light, light from a fire etc) so I can make enough illustrations for the planned tutorial.
I’ve still been consciously thinking about style, so decided to sorta do some experiment doodles with just how I feel like I want to draw, just letting the lines flow and not fretting about everything. Originally the plan was to just sketch, but then I liked the drawings that came out of it.
While Sally (the last one) bugs me, since I feel the style doesn’t really fit with the other two, (so note to self, perhaps exaggerate her eyes/lips more), I still like the way these turned out!
If you like the result, or just like the way you work with the drawings, then you are on the right track!! This is really good, Niki!
Tbh, I recognize your style a lot in all of them, but the one to the right feels a bit less “alive” compared to the other two. Maybe because of her expression I dunno.
This is probably the best effective way to actually find your style, for some people, they might have a developed style but aren’t that aware of it. So doing this little “exercise” might be a way to show yourself that, hey, your drawings got some personality!
Moar of this plz<3
(btw I should totally do this as well… feels like I get too bothered by fixing the anatomy that I loose the fun part in drawing)
